The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service recently announced grants awarded to more than 60 U.S. agricultural organizations, including ones in Washington, that help expand commercial export markets.
The funding was made possible through the 2014 farm bill.
The Washing Apple Commission will receive more than $4.9 million through the Market Access Program this year to promote the export of the state's top crop.
Other grants include: $2.9 million to Pear Bureau Northwest, $1.6 million to the Washington State Fruit Commission, $310,000 to Hop Growers of America, $850,000 to the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council and $834,000 to Welch Foods, owned by farmer cooperative National Grape.
The USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council also will receive about $158,000 for the Foreign Market Development Program.
