Kennewick developer Bob Johnson has two new commercial building projects underway in the Tri-Cities.
The first is a new office building at 8486 W. Gage Blvd. in Kennewick, on which construction has already begun.
The second is a strip mall in South Richland near the new Yoke's Fresh Market, in partnership with Terry Blankenship of East Side Commercial Realtors in Kennewick. Construction is expected to begin in late March.
The office building is expected to cost $680,000, according to the permit. The single-story, 5,500-square-foot structure will be located next to another of Johnson's projects, the 119 Degrees West building.

The unique design will be based on a Frank Lloyd Wright theme adapted by Pondera Architecture of Spokane, Johnson said.
"Both my wife, Nicky, and I really love Wright's designs." Johnson said. "I don't like to put up the typical type of construction. I like to do things differently. This building is going to be sweet."
Johnson hopes to have the core and shell of the building completed in three to four months. He's already reserved a 1,500-square-foot suite of office space for his company, The Johnson Group. The rest will be available for medical or general office use.
Several people have expressed an interest in buying or leasing space in the building, but nothing has been signed yet, Johnson said.
The strip mall, estimated to cost $1.5 million, will be about 7,000 square feet, with nearly 2,000 square feet reserved for a restaurant, though a tenant has not been found yet. The remaining space will be divided into up to seven retail suites, under the ownership of Three Hinge LLC.
"It'll have a very unique, modern design," Johnson said.
