Finnegan Frost, a frozen yogurt shop on Gage Boulevard in Richland, has been sold.
The buyers, Angela Kora and Scot Newell, are already well-known to the Tri-Cities.
They opened Ethos Bakery, a wholesale and retail wood-fired bakery and pizzeria, in the Port of Benton's Tri-Cities Enterprise Center off Logston Boulevard in Richland in October 2011.
Since then, the two have expanded their business to include Ethos Creamery, which produces hand-crafted ice cream, and Ethos Catering.
Never miss a local story.
Kora said adding a frozen yogurt shop to their business lineup is a little different, but then explained the company began adding ice cream to the bakery's offerings during the holidays.
"We talked about going into that market area in October and November. We told each other, other cities have fabulous ice cream places, why not the Tri-Cities? So when the opportunity to buy Finnegan Frost came up, we took it," Kora said.
Finnegan Frost was founded in April 2012 by three partners; Matt Kincaid of Kennewick, Michael Miller of Kennewick and Tyler Borders of Richland.
Their vision was to have a frozen yogurt shop with an emphasis on healthy options. Their treats contain no refined sugar, artificial flavorings or gluten.
When it came time to sell, the three searched carefully for a buyer.
"They told us they plan to keep the healthy offerings, which was important for us," said Matt Kincaid. "Angela and Scot are a good fit. They're passionate about food and are good at it."
Kincaid said the decision to sell wasn't easy but it had come time for each of the partners to follow their own career paths. He is a professor at Columbia Basin College, Borders has a brand strategy consulting company and Miller is part-owner and manager of the new Stick & Stone Neapolitan Wood-Fired Pizzeria in Richland.
"The heart and soul of Finnegan Frost -- commitment to quality, simplicity and health -- will remain unchanged," Kora said. She and Newell also plan to keep the name, but operate it as part of the Ethos Group.
They do plan to enlarge the list of available toppings and make their Ethos Creamery ice cream available.
Buying Finnegan Frost has kept Kora and Newell busy in recent months, but it hasn't kept them from planning their next project: opening Ethos Trattoria in north Richland in early fall 2014.
The full service restaurant and coffee shop will feature a wood-fired oven and grill and serve beer, wine and spirits.
