Anyone in Prosser with yearning for fine cheese will find it at Le Grand Fromage.
That's French for The Big Cheese.
It's a new shop in town carrying a variety of imported and Northwest cheeses, including Manchego, Oregonzola, Humboldt Fog and a selection of Cougar Gold cheeses from Washington State University's creamery.
It's owned by Alison and Bo Bryan and is Alison's dream job.
"When on vacation and traveling on holidays, I always seek out the gourmet food and cheese shops. I've dreamed of having my own place," she said.
After being laid off at Hanford and searching a year for another position, she and her husband decided the time was right and began looking for a storefront.
They said they found the perfect spot at 618 Eighth St. in downtown Prosser.
"I've not run a business before but had an idea that Prosser needed a cheese shop to complement the wine industry. In my view, it was just obvious," she said.
Alison has stocked her shop with some of her favorite cheeses, but is always on the lookout for something new.
"I especially like finding those from the small dairies -- cows, sheep, goat -- in Washington and Oregon. My most recent find, Mopsy's Best, is a sheep cheese from Black Sheep Creamery in Chehalis. It's one of the best I've ever had and is named after the owner's first ewe," she said.
Alison also stocks crackers, cheese knives, chutney, clotted cream, chocolate, pickles, cookies, and all the things that go with cheese.
She carries salami from Olympic Provisions in Portland and from Salami Artisan Cured Meats in Seattle, corned beef and pastrami.
Alison also has wicker and insulated picnic baskets, and will happily pack up a snack or make a gift basket.
