MOSES LAKE -- A $30 million microalgae-based biotechnological manufacturing plant will be built in Moses Lake, officials announced Monday.
AstaReal Technologies' plant is expected to create 45 permanent jobs. Most employees will be hired locally in mid-2014, according to a news release from AstaReal.
The plant will produce astaxanthin, an anti-inflammatory agent.
The astaxanthin produced in Moses Lake will be marketed in the United States and worldwide through Japanese pharmaceutical company Fuji Chemical Industry's various subsidiaries, the release said.
The manufacturing plant is expected to start operating in the third quarter of 2014.
Fuji established its manufacturing subsidiary AstaReal to expand its astaxanthin business in the U.S., the release said.
