The Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce and United States Small Business Administration are urging Mid-Columbia residents to shop, eat and support local small businesses during National Small Business Week, June 17-21.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the United States each year.
The Tri-Cities is no exception to the above statistic. To remain competitive, the Tri-City area depends on the growth and success of small businesses and entrepreneurs, Lori Mattson, president and CEO of the regional chamber wrote in a news release.
"Small business plays a crucial role in the development of our community and our region's economic prosperity," Mattson wrote. "The regional chamber strives to create a healthy business climate by encouraging and aiding small business growth through programs, resources and business advocacy."
Services the regional chamber provides include:
-- A Procurement Technical Assistance Center, which helps small businesses win government contracts.
-- Meet the Buyer: Alternative Public Works Contracting workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on June 25 at the Tri-Cities Business & Visitor Center in the Bechtel Board Room.
-- Business Development University: Become a Customer Service Superhero: Understand Your Customers' Needs & How to Save the Day seminar from 1 to 3 p.m. June 27 at the Tri-Cities Business & Visitor Center in the Bechtel Board Room.
-- A Small Business Incentive Program that awards small businesses up to $1,000 for items to strengthen their business. The program kicks off July 1, and applications are due Aug. 30. Applications can be picked up at the regional chamber office, 7130 W. Grandridge Blvd.
-- The Tri-CitiesBusinessBuilder.com website provides assistance with marketing, site location, government contracting and more.
