Pacific Northwest National Laboratory plans a talk on "broad data" today by Jim Hendler, a professor at Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He will speak at 11 a.m. at the Battelle Auditorium off Battelle Boulevard in Richland.
Broad data is the term for the massive data that emerges from millions of raw data sets available on the internet. Hendler will discuss challenges and potential starting points for solutions in search and discovery, rapid ad hoc integration of data sets and issues related to data use, reuse and combination.
He'll illustrate approaches using data sets from more than 1 million open data sets collected globally from about 200 governments.
