An architecture firm with an office in Kennewick will provide analysis and cost estimates for some proposed improvements at the Benton County courthouse in Prosser.
County commissioners on Tuesday approved paying Design West Architects up to $5,000, plus expenses such as travel, for the work.
The proposed improvements include remodeling the restrooms and shuffling some work spaces to increase efficiency and security and improve customer access.
The analysis and cost estimates will come back to commissioners at a future meeting for a decision about whether to move forward.

Commissioners also approved spending up to $9,300, including state sales tax, for a new patrol dog for the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
