Women who enjoy fun, funky clothing likely will enjoy a new store that's coming to Columbia Center mall in Kennewick.
Owners Dale and Shawnda Rainey of Coeur d'Alene plan to open Vivo, a casual boutique-style clothing store near the mall's food court May 1.
The name, he said, is Latin for "to live, to celebrate."
"It's an upbeat word and celebrates life. I think it's cool," said Dale Rainey.
Never miss a local story.
The store's clothing and accessories carry out the spirit of the store name, he said.
"We specialize in trendy, current styles with a fast turnover. New items and styles come in every week," he said.
Vivo also will carry women's junior size clothing. Its core customers are 18- to 25-year-olds.
"But we have lot of pre-teens, teens and women into their 30s, 40s and up who shop with us. Even if someone's not into the trendy styles, we stock a lot of accessories," said Dale Rainey.
What makes Vivo stores popular with shoppers are the prices, said Patricia Bardin, Columbia Center's marketing director. Most tops are $20 or less, jeans run about $60 and dresses are in the $25 range.
This will be the couple's sixth and largest Vivo store.
"Our other stores are about 2,500 square feet. This one is 3,000," he said.
The couple opened their first Vivo store in Coeur d' Alene in May 2009 and began expanding in 2010. Adding a second in Coeur d' Alene, one at the Spokane Valley Mall and one each at Northtown Mall and River Park Square in Spokane.
"There are no more opportunities here so we looked south," he said.
The geography attracted them. The Tri-Cities is only a two- to three-hour drive from their headquarters in Coeur d' Alene. Plus Columbia Center is a high-producing mall because there are no others nearby to compete with it.
"It's a great market and the store should do well," said Dale Rainey.
The couple expect they'll hire nine employees, including three full time managers.
