A 50-room Best Western hotel will open in Dayton as soon as mid-March.
The hotel, at 507 E. Main St., will be the largest in Dayton, a town about 65 miles east of the Tri-Cities near the foothills of the Blue Mountains.
The 36,287-square-foot hotel was valued at $3.5 million, according to Columbia County officials.
Investor Duke Resorts of Henderson, Nev., has ties to the area and recognized the need for a high-quality hotel like Best Western, said Fred Smith, the owner's representative.
Never miss a local story.
Brad McMasters, Dayton Chamber of Commerce executive director, said he expects the hotel will help draw tourists to the town of 2,535, especially since it's a national, recognized brand.
It fills in a gap between the town's high-end boutique hotel and drive-up motel, he said.
"I just see it as a wonderful perk for the economic development of our area," he said.
The town draws tourists with its history, recreation and luxury items, such as shopping, restaurants and wine tasting, McMasters said.
McMasters said he is especially excited because the hotel should provide the infrastructure lacking for the area's recreation, which includes skiing, hunting and fishing.
The hotel will include secure storage for outdoor recreation equipment, an outdoor fish cleaning station and a large outdoor grill and seating area, he said.
The company has worked hard to make sure the hotel will cater to the needs of the community, from amenities to architectural elements, McMasters said.
The exterior will tie into an agricultural theme, Smith said. It will feature stone fascia, lap siding and shingle-like siding reminiscent of a farmhouse.
In addition to 50 guest rooms, the hotel will feature meeting space to accommodate up to 80 people and a boardroom, Smith said.
Dayton doesn't have anything like that right now, McMasters said. The chamber hopes to use the meeting space as a draw for retreats, conventions and workshops.
Amenities will include an indoor pool, exercise area and jet tub, Smith said.
Smith said the hotel has been designed so that an additional 24 rooms can be added at some point, which will bring the hotel to 74 rooms.
