The globalization of small modular nuclear reactors will be discussed Wednesday at the membership luncheon of the Tri-City Development Council.
Victor Reis, senior adviser in the Office of the Secretary for the Department of Energy, will discuss whether the Fukushima, Japan, nuclear disaster in spring 2011 could be a "Sputnik moment" for nuclear power.
Reis is best known as the architect and original sponsor of the U.S. nuclear Stockpile Stewardship Program and its associated Accelerated Strategic Computing Initiative, which resulted in the creation of several new generations of government-sponsored supercomputers.
The lunch is at 11:30 p.m. at the Three Rivers Convention Center, 7016 W. Grandridge Blvd., Kennewick. Cost is $25 for TRIDEC members and $30 for others. Registration is available at tridec.org or by calling 735-1000.
