Kennewick's Apollo Inc. will rebuild the quarter-mile of Highway 410 near Naches that was destroyed by a massive landslide in 2009.
The company is starting construction on a permanent fix that will reroute the highway around the toe of the landslide about 22 miles north of Yakima.
The $9.3 million Nile Valley reconstruction project removes Highway 410 traffic from the Nile Loop Road, re-establishes the route near its original location before the landslide, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Construction crews will strengthen the Naches riverbank to prevent the new highway from eroding before the water level rises in the spring, according to the state. Several buildings will be removed.
Never miss a local story.
Once ground water levels recede in June, major construction will begin on support walls and the new highway.
Drivers will experience minor traffic delays.
