Richland CityView cable 13 is celebrating the milestone of reaching more than 100,000 distinctive views on its YouTube channel.
The CityView page, youtube.com/RichlandCityView13, was created in 2007, but staff did not aggressively begin marketing and adding content to the channel until September 2010.
"When the city revamped its website in 2010 to include a social media component, we really began to use our YouTube page as a means to reach a new audience beyond our cable viewers," said Michael Charboneau, Richland Cable communications coordinator.
"Nearly all of our hits have been logged in the last year and a half," he added.
In addition to uploading most of the programs that air on CityView cable 13 to the YouTube channel, staff also produces content exclusively for the YouTube channel.
"We also upload timely and topical programs such as events, ribbon cuttings or news conferences, most of the time within hours after the event," Charboneau said. "This gets the city information out in a timely matter and seems to be appreciated by the viewers, based on our hit counts."
In addition to YouTube, Richland CityView archives all its meetings and programs for instant view on the city's website, www.ci.richland.wa.us, and hosts an iTunes page for downloading of programs.
