Two Hanford contractors, Washington River Protection Solutions and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International, have reached milestones for time worked without an injury that caused a lost day of work.
Tank farm employees under WRPS have worked more than 3 million hours without a lost-workday injury. It's a record that only has been achieved once before in the history of the Hanford tank farms, said WRPS president Mike Johnson.
WRPS has more than 1,300 employees, many of whom work outside in winter weather at the tank farms, where 56 million gallons of high-level radioactive waste are stored underground.
Advanced Technologies workers at the 222-S Laboratory have worked a full year without a lost workday injury. The firm employs 70 people and conducts laboratory analysis and testing of highly radioactive and hazardous waste samples.
