WALLA WALLA -- A University of Notre Dame professor and groundwater expert is to speak tonight at Walla Walla University about his work on water issues in Africa.
Stephen Silliman, a civil engineering and geological sciences professor, has developed a research program on water hydrology at Notre Dame.
He also has done work in developing countries including Haiti and Benin, West Africa, where he has trained local residents to monitor water quality and develop water resources.
Silliman is the National Groundwater Association's 2011 Darcy Distinguished Lecturer, and his talk is sponsored locally by the American Society of Civil Engineers and Engineers Without Borders clubs at WWU.
The free lecture is at 6:30 p.m. in the Chan Shun Pavilion, Room 154.
