KENNEWICK -- A Richland-based pediatrics practice is building a $1.25 million office in Kennewick.
Pediatrics for You broke ground on the new office this month after its current building was bought by Kadlec Health System.
Dr. Shakti Matta said he expects the new building at 6802 W. Rio Grande Ave. to be finished in September. And he and physician's assistant Kristin Erickson plan to open the office by the end of the year.
"We want to expand," Matta said.

His current office at 712 Swift Blvd. is 1,800 square feet with five exam rooms. The new building will include about 7,800 feet of finished space and an additional 3,300 feet of unfinished space.
Kadlec spokesman Jim Hall said the hospital bought Matta's building in January 2010 but has no specific plans for it.
Matta provides primary care for children, as well as specialized care for children with health care needs such as Down syndrome, neurological diseases, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and congenital heart conditions.
"I coordinate care with their specialists," he said.
Matta also provides hospital care for patients. "Continuity of care is important," he said. "Families love it."
Matta said he tries to accommodate families' needs by staying open late weekdays and on the weekends.
The practice hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Patients may make and read comments on their website, www.pediatricsforyou.com. They also may reach Matta by e-mail.
"We want to provide a family friendly facility and service to try and keep the kids healthy," Matta said.
Matta earned his medical degree in 1987 in New Delhi, India. He also earned degrees in child health and pediatrics in India.
He also earned a master's in health care management from Harvard University, he said.
Matta finished a residency at a Chicago hospital in 1998 and then worked as a pediatrician for the Columbia Basin Health Association in Othello until 2007 and was the clinic's medical director part of that time.
Matta opened his private practice in Richland in September 2007. Erickson joined the practice in November.
The Mid-Columbia Small Business Awards named their practice the Micro Business of the Year in 2010.
