The Alliance for Nuclear Accountability will honor Walter Tamosaitis of Richland for his leadership in raising technical and safety issues about the future operation of Hanford's vitrification plant.
He was nominated for an award for his stand to bring accountability and transparency to the Department of Energy and its contractors, according to the alliance. Tamosaitis has filed a lawsuit alleging he lost his management position on the project after raising concerns.
The alliance plans an award ceremony April 5 in Washington, D.C.
Also being honored are Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., and Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., for their leadership in securing ratification of the New START treaty. Carol Urner, a founding member of Women's Strike for Peace, and Natalia Manzurova, a Russian activist who lives near Chernobyl, also will receive awards.
