WALLULA -- The Washington state Department of Ecology is seeking public input on a proposed notice of construction order for Boise White Paper at Wallula to allow the company to upgrade and modify its corrugator operation.
The corrugator makes wavy reinforcement lining for cardboard boxes.
Upgrades or modifications to existing equipment at industrial sites require a notice of construction order to ensure protection of air quality, according to Ecology.
Boise White Paper's request is intended to reduce a bottleneck in construction caused by the corrugator, to increase production capacity and to make more efficient use of steam.
Never miss a local story.
Steam at the facility is generated by natural gas boilers, operated under a permit from Ecology.
Public comment on the proposed order is open July 8 through Aug. 9.
The document is available for the public at Mid-Columbia Public Library, 1620 S. Union, Kennewick; or on Ecology's website at www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/swfa/industrial/pulp_boisesal.html
