If you have a great pair of jeans that you love, but are so faded they look like they jumped out from the 80 -- or there's a hat that is so full of sweat marks that it’s no long allowed in public -- consider a dye job.
A do-it-yourself dye job can be done at home in just a few minutes and a couple of dollars. So before you throw out your old clothing items, try this dye job first.
Buy RIT dye in the color you’d like, around $2 per box. Try Navy Blue for a dark fresh look on a pair of jeans.
Follow the directions on the box, mixing about 10 cups of boiling water with the dye powder and soaking your item in the mix (typically for 5 minutes). Make sure to wear a pair of gloves because this will stain your hands!
Never miss a local story.
Rinse the item until water runs clear.
Hang to dry or throw in the dryer.
NOTE: If you have seams in your jeans, or other clothing items, they should stay true to their original color. Because these are made of synthetic thread, they will not dye. Making your jeans look nice and new!
Now you can have a nice new pair of jeans for $2!
