Cell phone bills can cost us hundreds of dollars a month. Using the tips below, learn how to cut your cell phone bill immediately.
Prepaid plans: This is great for those who don’t use their phone often or for teenagers who surprise you with a huge bill at the end of the month. Put the allotted amount on the phone and once the minutes are up, the phone isn’t usable until more minutes are added.
Buy an unlocked phone: Online retailers such as Amazon.com offer unlocked phones. This means you can buy any brand of phone and use any SIM card to activate it. This option is great if you are locked in to your current provider’s contract, but would like a new phone without the $400 price tag!
Family plan: Family plans don’t always mean relatives. Extend this to mean your roommate, best friend, etc. Often, providers offer a huge discount on minutes when you are in a family data plan.
Text free apps: If you have a smartphone, there are many apps that you can download to save you money. One free app is Textfree with Voice which offers free unlimited text and picture messaging as well as other features such as calling and Facebook chat.
Employer discount: Many providers offer a discount to companies and universities. Ask your provider if your employer qualifies. This can save a total percentage off your bill and often on purchases, too.
Evaluate your plan: Monitor your usage each month. If you frequently go exceed your minutes or use more data than is allowed in your plan, call and upgrade your plan to the best option considering what you actually use. If you are the opposite and are paying for a much larger plan than you actually use, call and downgrade your plan. You can save big just by evaluating your usage.
Monitor your bill: Remember to look over your entire bill each month. Sometimes, there can be incorrect charges that you can dispute.
