Extension offers course on identiflying insects

KENNEWICK -- A free 20-hour short course on identifying insects, beneficial and pests, is being offered May 25-27 at the Washington State University Extension office in Kennewick.
The course is designed to train Extension field faculty, Extension Master Gardeners, agency professionals and crop consultants. It will include collecting, mounting and identifying insects, using a stereo microscope and insect key, as well as insect management and creation of an educational display.
All handouts, materials, equipment and supplies will be furnished. Space is limited.
A community service project related to insect identification is expected of each participant (10 hours minimum).

Preparing roses for June show topic of talk
WEST RICHLAND -- The Tri-City Rose Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. May 23 at the Sandberg Center in West Richland.
The program features longtime exhibitor Helen Newman, who will demonstrate how to prepare roses for the rose show scheduled for June 5. The public is invited and encouraged to enter their blooms in the show.
The center is at 331 S. 31st St., on the left side of Van Giesen Street driving toward Benton City.
