HERMISTON -- Owners of the Chuckwagon Cafe in Hermiston, Dorothy Beason and Cathy Stolz, are holding their 10th annual Dutch Oven Cookoff on Sept. 21.
The cookoff runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be set up behind the cafe, which is two miles north of Hermiston on Highway 395.
There are no categories this year. Cooks or teams of cooks are welcome to prepare any dish in an effort to win the $100 People's Choice Award. There's also an honorable mention, a $50 gift certificate to the Chuckwagon Cafe.
There is a $10 registration fee per cook or team. There is no limit on the number of dishes that can be entered.
Never miss a local story.
At noon, everyone can buy a sampling plate for $4 (or more) and stroll down cook's row sampling the various dishes. Votes will be tallied about 12:30 p.m. and winners announced.
Boy Scout Troop 679 will be selling servings of Dutch oven fruit cobblers, and a concession stand, run by the Umatilla Boosters Club, will have elephant ears, hot dogs, floats and beverages.
There will be live music by The Buttercreek Boys, a live auction and a drawing for a bistro table and chairs.
