Herald readers will be getting a new monthly food magazine beginning today. You will find it among the food ads in today's paper.
Dash magazine is published by Sunday Parade magazine.
Dash -- no relation to the Mrs. Dash line of seasonings from Alberto-Culver -- will be inserted into the Herald on the first Wednesday of each month.
Dash will present food articles and recipes meant to appeal to busy cooks who need to get food on the table in, well, a dash. They are a mix of fast and easy recipes inspired by the editors of Bon Appetit and Parade. They also will draw on the archives of the defunct Gourmet magazine and recipes found at Epicurious.com.

Prosser's Desert Wind Winery is celebrating its fifth year of operation -- and first full year of dinner service at Mojave -- from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
They will have a fajita bar and live music by the Dirty River Blues Band. The tasting room will feature a variety of sales and specials and will be open until 9 p.m.
The event is free for wine club members and one guest. Others must pay $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

Best for: The book is slim, at a mere 136 pages, yet the author has packed it with recipes, guidance and enthusiasm for slow cookers and Indian food. Fans of either will be prompted to try one of her recipes, perhaps simple spinach and lentil soup or butter chicken.
