Drinking your morning caffeine or evening tea out of a reusable mug instead of a disposable one could help keep billions — that’s right, with a “b” — of disposable cups out of landfills.
Avoiding Styrofoam cups is particularly helpful because they will still be sitting in landfills 500 years from now, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Keep a ceramic mug at the office and one with a lid in your car for those coffee shop stops. Many shops will even give you a few cents off your drink if you bring your own mug.
Take the concept a step further by cutting down on other disposable dishes: Consider eating your brown bag lunch off of a real dinner plate, with real silverware.
