Richland native Rebecca Sharpe has received a $1,000 Howard and Shirley Strobel Scholarship from the College of Arts and Sciences at Washington State University.
This award is given to a student who has shown high achievement, financial need, demonstration of commendable degree progression, or status in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class.
Sharpe also received a $2,000 Agnes Busck Brenneis Scholarship from the College of Arts and Sciences at WSU. This award is given in recognition of academic merit and outstanding writing in the English department.
Sharpe received the Jennie Brown Rawlins Scholarship for 2014-15 for outstanding work in fictional writing in the Creative Writing Department of WSU. She also received honorable mention for the same award for the 2015-16 school year.
Sharpe graduated from Hanford High School in 2010. She plans to graduate WSU in 2016 with a degree in creative writing and minors in psychology and philosophy.
Sharpe is the daughter of Steven and Frances Sharpe of Richland.
