Barbara and Joseph Sutey of Kennewick celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 8 with family at Cavanaugh's Bay Resort in Priest Lake, Idaho.
They met at a dance in high school. They were married Aug. 8, 1964, at St. Ann's Church in Butte, Mont. They moved from Portland to the Mid-Columbia in 1966.
Barbara was a homemaker and a Sacajawea Elementary education volunteer in Richland.
Joseph worked for the General Accounting Office, Atomic Energy Commission and Department of Energy. He worked on the Fast Flux Test Facility project and became the department's budget director, then director of facilities before retiring in 1997 from DOE. He continued work in consulting for Source Selection Consulting before retiring again in 1999.
He works as a leader for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults for his church and is a member of the Montana State University Hall of Fame as his college football team proved to be the only squad in Bobcat history to win an end-of-the-season bowl game.
They are members of Christ the King Catholic Church in Richland.
They have three children, Steve Sutey of Kirkland; Lisa Noble of Richland; and Mike Sutey of Richland. They have eight grandchildren.
