Bonney and PJ Bence of Richland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 8 with a private family dinner.
They were married Sept. 8, 1962, in Bellflower, Calif. They lived in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., before moving to the Mid-Columbia 33 years ago.
Bonney retired from the Kennewick School District in 2004 where she worked primarily with special needs children throughout her 25 years with the district. She was a Pink Lady volunteer at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland and worked with Team Read at the school district. She is an active volunteer for the Tri-Cities Cancer Center and the Cancer Guild.
PJ worked for Rockwell during the Apollo Space Mission and transferred to the Tri-Cities in November 1978. He has been employed with the Supply System, Westinghouse, and retired from Fluor Hanford in 1996. He consulted for several years until he was recruited as a teacher for Tri-Cities Prep Catholic High School. He spent several years as a booster member. PJ no longer has permanent classes but continues to support the school in various ways. He has served on the Richland Farmers Market Board and has helped with the development of this event for several years.
They are members of Parish of the Holy Spirit Church in Kennewick and have spent years teaching religious education to youths. PJ leads the church finance council.
They have three children, Air Force Brig. Gen. Chris Bence and wife Wendy, stationed at the Pentagon; Mindy and Ron Thomas of West Richland and Kadi Bence of Kennewick.
