Soren and Jan Jensen of Kennewick will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 19 with an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. at South Hills Baptist Church, 3700 W. 27th Ave., in Kennewick. They were married on June 24, 1960, at the Grace Brethren Church in Harrah, Wash.
Soren and Jan both grew up in the Yakima Valley. Both graduated from White Swan High School and after they married they moved to Pullman where Soren attended Washington State College. He received his degree in agricultural economics.
They returned and settled in Harrah where Soren began a successful banking career in the nearby town of Wapato. Later in his career, he left banking to accept a position with United Way. He returned to banking and retired from Columbia Trust Bank in 2003.
Soren served on numerous boards including Mid-Columbia March of Dimes, United Way, and Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation and was active in Kiwanis and Rotary.
Jan is a homemaker and always has something freshly baked in her kitchen. She worked part time in the various communities they lived in and was a generous volunteer with various church and civic organizations.
Soren and Jan enjoy camping and activities that involve their grandchildren.
They have three children, Dave (Dana) Jensen of Richland; Julie (James) Hunsaker of Maple Valley; and Kristen (Kevin) Axelson of Covington. They have four grandsons, Jacob, Jordan, Daniel and Benjamin.
