What a drag

U.N. bigwig Martin Sheinin filed a report suggesting that we "abandon the 'war paradigm' and enshrine the principles of gender equality and non-discrimination." He wants to rethink security checks at airports that "focus attention on male bombers who may be dressing as females to avoid scrutiny and make transgendered persons susceptible to increased harassment and suspicion."

Whoa, 'bout time ain't it? But why stop there? What about masculine-looking women who like to pretend they're men cross-dressing as women while traveling? Bearded ladies often do this. Monty Python members can freely portray women dressed as men, as is their wont. And finally, my sister could make grand use of the fake beard I got her for her birthday without fear of unwarranted scrutiny.

Who knows? Maybe someday if I want to wear a sequined evening gown or a nice conservative gingham shift on a red-eye to Bakersfield I can do it with my bonneted head held high. On second thought, nah, I'm really glad my mother made me dress up like Howard Keel every Halloween instead of Barbara Stanwyck.
