Bus policy lacks sense

My daughter goes to school at Enterprise Middle School in West Richland. We live in what is considered "walking distance" to the school. This walk is more than a mile if you take the paved route. If she crosses through undeveloped land, it is a bit less than a mile. This route is a dirt trail and is nasty during the winter months. We all know how the wind can blow and make conditions miserable this time of year. Add to that winter conditions and the walk to school is even more of a misery.

I just became aware that a bus comes right past our house before and after school. This bus is less than half-full at any given time and because of the "district policy" it cannot stop at our corner. I don't think we should get special treatment but come on, this doesn't make sense. How many children do we have walking when they could be riding to school in the safety of a school bus, especially one that is only half-full and passes these walking kids' homes?

Shouldn't it be the priority of the district to keep our kids safe?
