Many years ago I was privileged to see a list of proposed uses for the Fast Flux Test Facility. It was a long list. Many of the proposals were clearly designed to be profitable. Even so, the government insisted there were no proposed uses for the FFTF. It was an obvious fiction back then.
I don't know what the facility could be used for in its current condition, or if any of those uses would be economically viable. Although I did read a recent article on a shortage of medical isotopes, which the government promised wouldn't happen. In any case, the "no proposed uses" statement is still an obvious fiction. Somebody loses their credibility by claiming otherwise, and the news media loses its credibility by not calling them on it.
