Supports TCL

Tri-Cities Laboratory: Hold your position!

In response to ongoing negotiations between the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 21 and TCL, the union's current radio, newspaper and picketing campaigns are attempts to divide our community. They want our community citizens to "talk to your doctors and hospitals and ask them to let TCL know you support the union." I don't support the union and their attempts to drive up laboratory services costs. Our hospitals and doctors will simply pass those costs on to us.

TCL currently employs about 190 people who operate in all three local hospitals plus 21 satellite offices. TCL provides high quality, cost-efficient and timely results to ensure our medical providers can provide the care we need.

UFCW claims TCL "doesn't respect their workers." What do they mean by respect? It appears respect is guaranteed wage increases for union employees. For 10 years, TCL has successfully operated a performance-based salary structure and they want that to continue.

Look at the current economy; unemployment's at an all-time high, home foreclosures continue upward, stocks are down and the government recently announced no "cost of living" increases for Social Security recipients. At this rate TCL employees should be thankful they have jobs with benefits.

The union should not divide our community. I encourage our community to applaud and support TCL for their continued commitment of providing exceptional laboratory services.

K.A. THOMPSON, Richland
