During this election season, we are inundated with all kind of pleas. Vote for Sam, Just Say No, Support Me. Whatever.
I would like to make a plea to every driver out there for your public safety. This does not involve voting, and it will not cost you a single penny.
Many of the newer vehicles on the roads today have an "auto" feature associated with the lighting. My request of everyone of you is this: Please ignore this feature. Do not use it.
This feature is only for something called "Daytime Running Lights." It only lights up the headlamps, specifically the high-beams, and this is at a very reduced power level. This is designed to make your vehicle more visible to oncoming traffic during the day. It is not designed to light up the way home, or show you the neighbor kid crossing the road, or even be legal after sunset.
It also does not turn on any of the other lights mounted on your car. No tail lights. No marker lights. Nothing. The people behind you cannot see you near as well as they should. From the back, your vehicle is dark.
All because many people will not take the time to turn on their lights.
