As I was considering my votes for this fall's election I read your editorials and the materials about and from the candidates. In your editorial endorsing Kintzley and Adams, you said you "were convinced of Kintzley's independence." Shortly thereafter I received a JOINT campaign mailer from them, which clearly indicates that they are running as a team and share the same views. Even more disturbing, a portion of their mailer was devoted to criticizing Uby Creek and purporting that she was part of a "special-interest group" that is "determined to eliminate successful programs ..."
Creek responded that she was not associated with any special-interest group and that she had simply suggested that -- while the reading programs are very important -- math and science also need to be emphasized. I agree. I also feel that having a Latina on the school board would be a real asset.
I don't know any of the candidates personally but I will not vote for candidates that run based on attacking their opponent. It's time to send a message about negative campaigning!
It's also clear that Adams and Kintzley are in lock step with each other. So I will be voting for Uby Creek and Jason Alexander.
