KSD: Adams

Supporters of Dawn Adams hope voters realize just how highly regarded Kennewick's pioneering educational programs are nationally, and what a loss it would be if they are eliminated. Here's what one award-winning literary expert said just this week:

"The brilliance of Kennewick's reading program and the reason Kennewick got the jump in reading scores starting in 2000 ... was their willingness to increase reading time for students who were behind. There are 1,000 studies on the relationship between instructional time and student learning. Kennewick is a district that paid attention to the studies and it is time that other districts do, too."

That was Dr. Timothy Shanahan with the University of Chicago and noted champion of children's literacy. This kind of validation suggests Kennewick's current school board is on the right track and should not roll back progress. That's why it is essential that Adams, board chair, be re-elected.

She is in this race to strengthen core academics for all students, including struggling ones, and to get each little boy and girl off to a good start in school with successful programs such as Ready! for Kindergarten and Team Read. Vote for Dawn to keep Kennewick schools moving forward.

LYNN FIELDING, Kennewick
