Plain talk as the election is upon us.
Scott Gruber wrote some time ago that it would be better to elect Terry Nealey and "chip away" at the Democratic majority in the House in Olympia. "Chip away" is an apt term as there are 62 Democrats and only 36 Republicans. The Democratic leadership wants very much to keep Laura Grant in the 16th District, Position 2 seat. They would be inclined to, one, back projects which would benefit the 16th Legislative District (putting a feather in Laura Grant's cap) and, two, they would overlook the fact that Laura is a politically moderate, fiscally conservative Democrat whose voting record would be less progressive than west-side Democrats.
What's the ultimate test of qualification to serve? It's actually having served in the Legislature. Laura Grant met the challenge in her first session as our representative. She was elected vice chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, which is vitally important to Eastern Washington's interests. It would be a sad thing for the 16th District to lose that key position.
Both candidates are qualified to serve as your representative. Vote for Laura Grant and vote your crystal-clear interests.
