Irked by bailout perks

I was leery about bailing out the banking industry and now I'm really unhappy.

In a recent edition of the Tri-City Herald, not exactly a liberal publication, I read that bank executives from bailed-out institutions received cash bonuses (for failure?), stock options, country club memberships, the use of company jets and chauffeurs, home security -- what is going on?

I have none of the above perks, but I'm forced to pay for them for people who failed in their jobs? No! I don't care if those knuckleheads ever see the inside of a country club again!

If we are forced to bail out banking institutions that participated in risky business ventures, then those institutions must respect the source of the bailout and take back those bonuses and even fire the offending officers.

I think it's Congress' job to see to it that it's done. Everyone write their congressional representatives and ask them to be among the first to sponsor a bill requiring that executive cash bonuses be returned, the use of corporate jets and chauffeured vehicles cease, country club dues be canceled and a refund requested. And those stock options should be given to the American taxpayers who made continued business possible.
