The Bechtel National Planetarium is opening a new film Supervolcanoes narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch at 7 p.m. June 5.
The award-winning planetarium show examines rare classes of eruptions that have marshaled the energy that lurks, like a sleeping dragon, beneath Earth’s surface. The program also explores the impact of giant volcanic eruptions around the solar system. Fly down to Neptune’s frigid moon Triton and onto ultimate volcanic world Jupiter’s moon Io. The show is recommended for fourth grade and up and lasts 24 minutes.
The planetarium at Pasco’s Columbia Basin College is in the D building. For directions and more information, go to www.columbiabasin.edu/index.aspx?page=1496.
