Six people signed up for three Pasco City Council seats Friday, and more candidates threw their hats into the ring for city council and school board seats in Benton City, Richland and Kennewick on the final day to file Friday.
Three people — Elias Bustos, Bertha Alicia Coria and Juan Bolanos — registered against incumbent Pasco councilman Al Yenney.
R. Theron Cammer will seek Position 5 on the Pasco council along with incumbent and mayor pro-tem Rebecca Francik and challenger David Milne.
Pasco Mayor Matt Watkins, already facing a challenge from Bertha Aranda Glatt for his council seat, will now also go up against challengers Robert Sandoval and Edison Valerio.
Benton City Mayor Lloyd Carnahan picked up a third challenger in Cecelia Hickel. Councilwoman Linda Lehman and Steve Zetz filed for his position earlier in the week.
Drew Freepons, David Sandretto and former school board member Charles T. Gray all filed for Lehman’s Benton City Council seat, while Joseph Chapin Jr. and Vanessa Coates filed for the seat currently held by Connie Meredith. Jake Mokler became Michelle McLeod’s sole challenger for Position 5 on the council.
Keith Martin became the third candidate to file for Position 1 on the Ki-Be school board, facing board President Tim Cook and challenger Julie Rheinschmidt. Board member Wayne Elston will seek reelection with Dale Thornton challenging him. Michaele Brady Raap will go up against incumbent board member Tawny Garrett.
Ron Higgins, who originally filed for the Richland School Board position held by Mary Guay, changed his filing so he could challenge board Vice Chairman Rick Donahoe. Board Chairwoman Phyllis Strickler will face Donald R. Todd and Gordon Comfort.
Rick Fehr will challenge incumbent Victor Johnson and Don Campbell for the Kennewick Hospital Board. Mike McWhorter filed for the seat sought by incumbent Donna Vance and challenger Cedro Rodriguez.
All races for the West Richland City Council gained candidates Friday. Fred Brink, John Smart and Merle N. Johnson filed against incumbent Byron Martin. Don Engelman will challenge incumbent Robert Perkes. Scott Whalen and Neomi R. Garza will go up against Braden Sloughter while Ken Stoker will face incumbent Tony Benegas.
For the West Benton Regional Fire Authority Board, former Prosser School Board member Win Taylor will face Max Bentiz Jr., Prosser Hospital District board member Keith Sattler will go up against Jay Boyle, Tim B. Stewart will face Randy Fox, and Richard Clizbe filed against Dennis Ross.
Matt Boehnke filed to run against Kennewick city councilman Bob Olson and challenger Steve Simmons.
Donnie Landsman will face incumbent Terry Christensen for a seat on the Richland City Council.
Kit Watson and Robert Blahut both filed for the Prosser Hospital District board seat held by Bren Robinson.
E.W. (Bill) Houchin will challenge incumbent Scott Carpenter on the Benton Fire District 1 Board.
Darren L. Brock will go up against incumbent Kathryn Silva for her seat on the Connell City Council.
Randolph L. French will try and unseat Larry S. Ayre for his position on the Finley School Board.
A few other races saw their first filings on Friday:
• Miguel “Mike” Garza filed for reelection to the Othello School Board.
• Roger Bailie filed for reelection to the North Franklin School Board, while John Fox will seek Position 5 on the board.
• Matthew Smith filed for Franklin Fire District 1, and Shawn Ayers will seek a seat on Franklin Fire District 2’s board.
• Candi Roach will pursue a position on the Franklin Cemetery District 1 board.
