Races for school board, commission and council seats became more crowded Thursday, and there’s still one more day for people to file.
The filing period for elective offices in the state ends at 4 p.m. Friday.
Jill M. Oldson became the fourth person to file for the Richland School Board seat held by Mary Guay, who has not filed for reelection. Oldson is going up against Brett Amidan, Emily Allen and Ron Higgins, with the top two in this summer’s primary going on to the general election.
Board Chairwoman Phyllis Strickler also has a challenger in Gordon Comfort.

Comfort, executive director of Goodwill Industries of the Columbia, was principal of Richland High School from 2007 to 2011.
Former Franklin County Sheriff Richard Lathim and Kenneth Caylor of Othello are seeking the state representative seat for the 9th Legislative District formerly held by Pullman’s Susan Fagan, who resigned amid an ethics scandal.
Lathim filed as a Republican. Caylor, owner of Caylor Bee & Honey and a member of the Adams County Development Council, filed as a Democrat.
County commissioners in the 9th District recently appointed Mary Dye of Pomeroy to fill Fagan’s seat until the election. Dye filed for reelection earlier this week.
Pasco Mayor Matt Watkins will face Bertha Aranda Glatt for his at-large seat on the City Council. Glatt works as a health services coordinator in the Kennewick office of the Center of Occupational Health & Education.
David Milne, owner of Milne Nail, Power Tool & Repair in downtown Pasco, is challenging Rebecca Francik for her seat on the Pasco council.
Dori Luzzo Gilmour, a member of the Richland Arts Commission, has filed for the seat held by Gregory Jones on the Richland City Council. Don Campbell is going up against incumbent Victor Johnson for his position on the Kennewick Hospital Board.
Donald E. Walker, a commissioner for Benton Fire District 5 in Prosser, has filed for reelection. Challenger Randy Mercer, son of Commissioner Wayne Mercer, also seeks the position.
Taryn Hartley is challenging incumbent Jody Maddox for a seat on the Paterson School Board.
Incumbents Ron Mabry and Brian Brooks filed for reelection to the Kennewick School Board. Also filing for reelection were Bruce Matsumura of the Prosser School Board and Rob Simmons of the Othello School Board.
Dawn Senger seeks the seat held by Stephen McGaughey on the Finley School Board.
David Moon and Trevor Day are seeking Position 3 on the West Benton Regional Fire Authority board. Dennis Ross filed for Position 5.
