Another brood of ducklings caught on a Richland Rod and Gun Club webcam are expected to jump from their nesting box the morning of May 1.
Usually ducklings leave the nest between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., but the timing depends on when the wood duck hen feels they are ready. She often will survey the surroundings from the hole of the nesting box before leaving the nest and calling for the ducklings to follow.
They will climb the surface to the hole and jump, all within about one minute, said Dale Schielke with the club. The nesting box is near West Richland.
To watch for the jump, go to www.ustream.tv/channel/rrgc-nestcam. After the jump, Schielke will move the webcam to another of the club’s nesting boxes with wood duck eggs.
