Temperatures are expected to drop to freezing tonight, putting crops at risk across the Tri-Cities and beyond, the National Weather Service has warned.
Clear skies are predicted to follow this afternoon’s strong winds, which will allow temperatures to drop, according to the warning issued Tuesday morning.
The forecast calls for overnight lows between 29 to 33 degrees. The freeze warning is in effect from 1 to 9 a.m Wednesday and includes Hermiston, Prosser, Connell, Dayton, Waistburg and Walla Walla.
Taking precautions to protect sensitive outdoor plants is recommended, forecasters said.
Temperatures are expected to rise through the week, with highs near 70 and lows near 40 on Thursday and Friday.
