Local playwright Bradley Nelson will test drive his new work, A Gay SDA Play, on April 1 in Walla Walla.
The staged reading is at 7 p.m. at the Gesa Power House Theatre. It’s part of Shakespeare Walla Walla’s Works in Progress series.
The play explores the struggles between the Seventh-day Adventist religion and members who come out as gay.
It’s based on interviews Bradley conducted, a news release said. “I think everybody has an interesting story if you give them the opportunity to tell it. In writing this play, I was fortunate enough to be trusted with some very personal and moving examples,” he said in the news release.
Never miss a local story.
LuAnn Venden, an English professor at Walla Walla University, is directing.
Nelson graduated from Walla Walla University and holds a master’s degree in theater from Ohio University, the news release said.
A question-and-answer session and discussion will follow the reading.
Cost is $12 at the door. Students and teachers are admitted for free.
The play has mature themes.
