Second Harvest Tri-Cities will receive 2,500 pounds of fresh potatoes donated by Washington State Potato Commission.
The donation is being made because Rep. Joe Schmick, R-Colfax, won a drawing during the recent All Washington State Ag Fair in Olympia.
Any legislators who visited the commission’s booth during the fair got to enter a drawing. The winner got to pick which food bank or nonprofit would receive the donated potatoes.
“I had the privilege of visiting Second Harvest in Pasco last year to see the wonderful things they’re doing for those in need,” Schmick said. “Their selfless efforts are making a difference in our communities, but this is certainly a reminder that more needs to be done.”
Never miss a local story.
The commission will work with Second Harvest Tri-Cities to arrange potato delivery in the upcoming weeks. The potatoes will provide more than 7,500 servings to Tri-City area residents who rely on support from food banks.
