The Book of Life is a complex — but ironically simple — plot involving spirits making an other-worldly bet on Manolo and Joaquin who both love Maria. Manolo wants to make music but is pushed into the family bullfighting business and a spell is cast on Joaquin to make him a hero that saves the village from a villain.
This is a brilliant, animated feature that celebrates the Mexican holiday the Day of the Dead. Characters created like marionettes dance their way through a wonderfully human plot that sends Manolo to the world of the dead and beyond.
A terrific script packed with amusing dialogue and fun music combines the excellent voicing by a great cast to make a perfect cross-cultural flick that will tickle children and delight adults.
