The label is misleading because this is 100% Red Mountain from the Williams family's Kiona Estate and the younger Heart of the Hills site. It's blended with healthy additions of Cabernet Franc (20%) and Petit Verdot (5%). That Petit Verdot contributes remarkable dark purple fruit tones, starting with aromas that hint at plums, black cherry, chocolate and fresh popcorn. The drink is superb, entering akin to a rich and dark Syrah with that purple fruit, then the power of Red Mountain shows with bold plum-skin tannins and ageworthy acidity. There's understandable excitement within the family for this wine because it showcases Heart of the Hill's Clone 2 Cab and the Petit Verdot. Rated "Outstanding" by Great Northwest Wine. It also won a gold medal at the 2014 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Competition. (13.5 percent alcohol)
