While the next class of high school football talent is grinding away under the hot summer sun at camps and clinics around the state, a quartet of Mid-Columbia stars from the 2011 season will get one final day of prep glory.
Chiwana’s Jordan Downing and Miquiyah Zamora, Kennewick’s Grant Woods and Walla Walla’s Moe Handcox will take the field today at Everett Memorial Stadium to take part in the East/West All-Star Football Game.
Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
The four players will suit up for the East, and will have a familiar face on the sideline with Kamiakin coach Scott Biglin an assistant to Skyview’s Steve Kizer.
Never miss a local story.
Zamora and Downing, both headed to Eastern Washington next season, helped Chiawana win a second consecutive CBBN 4A league title.
Downing missed three games with a broken leg but still racked up 954 yards and 12 TDs in six games and was the league MVP. Zamora, an All-Area first-team pick at receiver and defensive back, was the league’s defensive player of the year.
Woods helped lead Kennewick to the state quarterfinals, running for 1,558 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season.
Handcox saw his terrific receiving numbers from his junior season tail off as the Walla Walla offense went to ground, but he still was a second-team pick at receiver and defensive back for the Blue Devils.
