Loretto Hulse has lived in Franklin County for 33 years and has been an active gardener for decades. She loves growing roses, herbs and vegetables.
What is your favorite gardening tool? My husband. He picks up heavy stuff and puts it down where I tell him to.
What is the newest rose you have planted? Abraham Lincoln. It is a deep red rose that does really well in our climate.
Any favorite gardening magazines or books? Sunset, of course. I also like The Vegetable Gardener's Bible by Edward C. Smith.
Never miss a local story.
Favorite tomato varieties? Cherries Jubilee. It is a mini cherry tomato, and it does great in our garden.
Best tip for a new gardener? Mulching and landscape cloth are your friends. Weeds are your enemy.
Do you grow from seed or starts? Both. Depends on how lazy I feel. I love going to the Pasco Farmers Market to get basil starts, but I prefer to plant tomatoes from seeds.
Do you have a favorite website or gardening blog? I like Backyard Gardening.
