The Richland School District has hired CKJT Architects of Kennewick to design the new Special Programs building.
The new building will be about 6,000 square feet and will be just north of the district administration building on Snow Avenue. It will also include room for the Information Systems data center.
The district's next step will be to determine a contract and the cost.
Special Programs includes departments such as special education and early learning. The current special programs building was used by officers serving on the Hanford nuclear reservation during World War II and was given to the district by the federal government in the 1950s.
Never miss a local story.
The district anticipates the project will be complete by August 2011.
