MOSES LAKE -- The Grant County prosecutor says a Moses Lake man accused of shooting and wounding his estranged wife as she was driving away from a cemetery has been charged with attempted murder.
Prosecutor Angus Lee said Wednesday that 55-year-old Mark Benson made an initial appearance Monday in Superior Court, where bail was set at $1 million and Benson requested a public defender. Arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 5.
The Columbia Basin Herald reports that Susan Benson was mowing grass Sunday at Pioneer Memorial Gardens cemetery as part of her business, Benson Funeral Services.
Grant County Undersheriff John Turley says she left after her husband showed up wanting to talk about the state of their divorce. She suffered a gunshot wound to her left shoulder and was treated at a local hospital.
Turley says Mark Benson was arrested a few hours later.
